Yee Chuan Tao Kung Fu is an internal/external system which uses chi (sometimes spelled qi or chee) as its primary source of power. Originated by Taoist monks, the system predates the Shaolin Temple by 3,000 years. In the tradition of Taoism, it is spontaneous and alive. There are no set forms, or katas, to memorize and it contains only defensive moves. As a rose has thorns, it is in this sense Mike with Swordnonviolent, and leaves room for love, peace and harmony to come first.

Students learn concepts, and train their ballistic reflexes in order to create an art suited to their individual needs. The use of weapons such as sword, staff, short sticks and cane help the student understand the movements in their body. There are no belts or levels. As a self-defense it is extremely effective, therefore there is no competition in class.

Yee Chuan will work for anyone, young or old, regardless of physical ability. It is an organic and creative art, and each class is a new experience. Take one class or 1000! The journey is what’s fun. Learn how easy it is to live with aloha and yet be fully able to defend yourself in these uncertain times.

Here’s a haiku written by one of our students, Carol Dodd, that beautifully describes Yee Chuan Tao:

Kung Fu Haiku

I.
my sifu dances
sufi dancing kung fu style
he is the music

II.
kick punch spin and strike
at one with your opponent
peace within the self

III.
become the other
dancing with feet, fists, legs and arms
all embracing - one
